Eric Greene is UCLA’s Associate Communications Director for Diversity and Campus Climate, working with senior leadership to meet the needs of marginalized populations, address ethnic and political tensions, and ensure that commitment to inclusion and equity is integral to the university’s communication and marketing strategies.
Beginning his career working on civil rights matters at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Eric also served as Senior Policy Advisor at the ACLU of Southern California, working on racial and economic justice; religious liberty; national, state, and local issue advocacy; ballot campaigns; community coalitions and communications strategy.
As a cultural critic, Eric has written or contributed to half a dozen books on the intersection of race, the arts and politics. His first book, Planet of the Apes as American Myth: Race, Politics, and Popular Culture has been hailed by the Los Angeles Times as “a classic.” Eric studied religion at Wesleyan University before attending Stanford Law School, where he served as vice president of the Black Law Students Association and was a founder of the West Coast Conference on Progressive Lawyering. In 2022, he was elected a delegate to the California Democratic Party.
