Maer Roshan

Co-Editor-in-Chief

The Hollywood Reporter

Maer Roshan is an award-winning editor, writer and media entrepreneur who has held top roles at a diverse array of leading publications, including New York Magazine, Los Angeles, Interview and Talk. He currently serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of The Hollywood Reporter, which has seen record traffic and circulation growth over the past year.

Previously, he spent five years as Editor-in-Chief of Los Angeles, where he was credited by the LA Times with revitalizing the “once-sleepy legacy title into a brash, news making powerhouse.” He has also independently launched and edited a series of trailblazing print and online publications. NYQ, a gay weekly he founded at the height of the AIDS crisis, was nominated for a Pulitzer and was reinvented by Time Inc. as a national gay glossy. Radar, an irreverent general interest monthly launched in his living room, was hailed by the New York Times as 2008’s launch of the year, and a model for print publications in the digital age.” And TheFix.com, an addiction and recovery website Roshan founded several years later, quickly became the leading addiction news site in the world.

Born in Tehran, Iran, Roshan immigrated to New York with his family when he was 12, during the Iranian revolution. He has written for publications including Harpers, New York, The New York Times, The New Republic, the Miami Herald, Town and Country, Vogue and the Atlantic, and has won two ASMEs, a dozen Webby awards and an Emmy for his work. Earlier this year, the producer Ryan Murphy presented him with the Daily Front Row’s award for “Editor of the Year.”
